road trip. Norway - 2

Noorwegen-2.png

hoping for  not too much delay in Germany due to road works we drive to a fjord in Denmark, any comparison with what you can imagine at a Norwegian fjord is flawed.

The first stop is in Aabenraa at this Fjord. The location of the Campsite on the water is pleasant for an overnight stop.

The next morning we drive to Hirtshals for the night ferry crossing to Stavanger Norway. Stavanger has a small center with beautiful old wooden houses.

With the Ferry we make the crossing from Stavanger to Tau where we head towards Camping Preikestolen in Jørpeland, a pleasant campsite with a top location

From this campsite it's about 5 minutes to the parking lot for the trip to the Preikestolen a tough but a great experience to end at the Preikestolen for a phenomenal view from a great height over the Fjord.

From Jørpeland we continue our route to Røldal, the village is known for the Røldal Stave Church from 1250.

From Røldal we head towards Hellesylt via Vossevangen and Balestrand, after 25 km from Røldal we see the Låttefossen waterfall on the left.

In Odda we can consider visiting Bergen (see previous post Norway). From Bergen towards Skei, the route rejoins the original route, or continue the route towards Hellesylt. After about 30 km after Odda we cross the Sørfjord via the Hardanger bridge and on the other side we arrive directly in the Vallavak tunnel with a futuristic illuminated roundabout in the “belly” of the mountain.

The route from Røldal to Hellesylt is 498 km, about half way  is located in Balestrand Camping Vegaset beautifully situated on the fjord, if a break is desired.

Hellesylt is a small town located on the Sunnylvsfjord through the village, a waterfall thunders into the fjord, the campsite is beautifully situated by the fjord

We continue our way to Molde, Molde is the capital of the province Møre og Romsdal, the campsite is located on the Midfjorden with a view of the Jotunheimen mountain range.

From Molde we make a round trip on the Atlanterhavsvegen the Atlantikroute is part of the Norwegian Scenic Routes

Atlantic Road is part of Fylkesvei 64 in Møre og Romsdal county in western Norway. The road connects the islands from Averøy to Vevang and Eide to the mainland to Kristiansund and Molde. Work began on August 1, 1983, until it opened on July 7, 1989.

From Molde we go to Flåm via Skei and Laerdasøyri, where in Laerdasøyri we turn right at the T-junction and follow the Fv243 to cross the Beautiful Kvignadal landscape treasure

(see previous post Norway) the route to the left goes through a tunnel.  For Flåm de Stegastein (see previous post Norway)

From Flåm (Flåm see previous post Norway) follow the E16 towards Laerdal for a breathtaking route through the Hallingskrvet and Hardangervidda Nasjonalpark On the E16

From Flåm after about 10 km take the FV 50 at the roundabout towards Hol.  Furthermore, we continue the route to Flateland Valle, Camping Flateland, nice and spacious, always a lovely spot.

From Flateland we drive to Kristiansand to take the boat again to Hirtshals Denmark.  From Hirtshals we drive towards Arhus, the second city of Denmark
